Team India is going to tour England in July and their first encounter will be a rescheduled 5th Test of India’s tour of England 2021. The team has already been announced for the one-off Test and it is likely that KL Rahul is going to miss the contest because of his groin injury. The right-handed batsman was announced as the vice-captain but may not be a part of the Test now and 3 players are in line to replace the stylish batsman.
3 players are in line to replace KL Rahul
KL Rahul sustained a groin injury just before the start of the 5-match T20I series against South Africa and was ruled out of the same. The batsman is currently recovering in National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and it is not yet clear when the batsman will fully recover and will be fit to play. While KL Rahul may miss the test, 3 players are in line to fulfil the need of an opening batsman for the team.
The duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul did an excellent job in the 2021 tour of England as they ensured that the team gets a good start. Their sensible batting made things easier for the batsmen to come. However, in the absence of KL, Rohit Sharma will have a new partner and 3 players are in line to accompany the explosive batsman for the one-off Test against England.
The first name that can replace KL is Prithvi Shaw who has got a little experience in the international arena. He has played 5 Tests for India so far and has looked good. The second player who can be a good replacement is Mayank Agarwal, who has been very good for the team as an opener. He was a part of the team which defeated Australia in their home ground.
The last name on this list is that of Priyank Panchal. Now, this name may come as a surprise but the batsman has been mighty impressive in the Ranji Trophy and surely deserves a chance on the big stage.
These 3 players are in line to replace KL Rahul; however, it is to be seen whether the management opts for a replacement or not since the team already has 3 opening batsmen. The rescheduled Test will be followed by 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
