MS Dhoni is hailed as one of the finest captains in the history of the Indian Premier League as he has led his team CSK to IPL triumph four times. However, CSK had a terrible outing in the previous edition and MS Dhoni might take some shocking decisions if things don’t improve in the initial phase of IPL 2023.

Dhoni is a selfless leader who has always put his side ahead of him and he will continue to do so in the upcoming edition of IPL as well. The whole decision-making will revolve around getting better results after failing to perform I’m IPL 2022.

1. Leaving Captaincy mid-season if Team fails under him

CSK had named Ravindra Jadeja as their captain ahead of the IPL 2022 but the team got disastrous results under him after which he was sacked. Dhoni had to lead the side once again as there was no other experienced player who could lead CSK.

Ahead of IPL 2023, CSK picked Ben Stokes for a whopping INR 16.25 crores. Stokes has revitalized the English test side and can because a great leader for CSK as well. Meanwhile, the yellow brigade is also grooming young Ruturaj Gaikwad to be their future leader.

2. Dropping himself if he doesn’t get fit in playing XI

There have been multiple instances in the Indian Premier League when a captain has dropped himself from the playing XI. Ricky Ponting and Eoin Morgan too had dropped themselves when they couldn’t perform well for their respective sides.

Right after announcing his International retirement in 2020, MS hasn’t contributed much with the bat and thus he can drop himself for the sake of CSK’s success.

3. Retiring at the end of the season

There are speculations about MS Dhoni retiring at the end of the 2023 IPL season in front of his home crowd in Chepauk Stadium. MS had earlier stated that he wants to play in front of Chennai’s crowd.

For the last three editions, IPL didn’t have a home-and-away format due to the covid protocols. CSK didn’t play a single IPL game in front of the home crowd in Chennai since 2019.
