CSK’s ‘Chinna Thala’, Suresh Raina, being a loved personality among the people of Tamil Nadu, was invited for commentating in the opening match of the 5th season of the TNPL. One of his comments though caught up the fire in the social media world. During his commentary when Suresh Raina was speaking about his connection with Chennai, he said he connects very well with the place as he’s also a Brahmin.

Suresh Raina’s ‘I am a Brahmin’ comment

While he was doing commentary for the opening match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Suresh Raina was asked about how he embraces the Chennai culture. Replying to it Suresh Raina said, “I think, I am also Brahmin. I have been playing since 2004 in Chennai, I love the culture… I love my teammates. I have played with Anirudha Srikanth, Badri (Subramaniam Badrinath), Bala Bhai (L Balaji)… I think you need to learn something good from there. We have a good administration, we have the license to explore ourselves. I love the culture there, and I’m lucky to be part of CSK. Hopefully, we will play more matches there.”

In the first match of the TNPL season, Lyca Kovai Kings took on Salem Spartans in the MA Chidambaram Stadium. It is worth mentioning that Suresh Raina took up the commentary mic for only the opening match of the season, he won’t continue further.

While his commentary, Suresh Raina also said that the CSK side would love to go to the UAE later in the year for the IPL. He said they’d love to win it for their Captain MS Dhoni, once again. Suresh Raina has been a part of the 3-time IPL Champion CSK side. He is also the leading run-scorer for CSK in the IPL. And the all-time 3rd highest run-scorer of the IPL competition for which he is also termed as ‘Mr. IPL’.

@ImRaina you should be ashamed yourself.

It seems that you have never experienced real Chennai culture though you have been playing many years for Chennai team. https://t.co/ZICLRr0ZLh

Having played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for India, Raina has had an amazing career. He has already announced his retirement from all forms of cricket last year with MS Dhoni. Though throughout his career Suresh Raina didn’t make the headlines for reasons other than Cricket, this is the first time it has happened, that too for his commentary.
