The ongoing test series between Australia and Pakistan hasn’t been short of quality banter between players and fans. If the spectators back in Rawalpindi were super-pumped to see their Australian guests in action for the first time in a long while; the energy among the Karachi crowd has been equally- if not more- passionate and intense.
Aussie players have had a lot of comical moments heading up to Karachi
However, more than the fans and their funny antics, it’s the Australia players who’ve been at their hilarious best during this Karachi leg of their tour. The comedy started right from the moment the Aussies arrived at the Karachi hotel, where keeper-bat Alex Carey ended up ‘accidently’ walking into the swimming pool.
More recently, though, it’s their ace batter Marnus Labuschagne who’s been having quite a bit of fun on his own expense at social media. Earlier this week, Marnus uploaded a picture of his ‘Dal-Roti’ lunch at Karachi’s hotel, which became an instant meme fodder the moment it reached social media.
But during the first day of play on Saturday at Karachi’s National Stadium, Marnus emerged as a hot favorite for every cricket troll in the world when he managed to run himself in the most bizarre of fashions. Marnus had faced 8 deliveries up until that point without scoring a run. And in his attempt to get off the mark, he dragged a delivery of Nauman Ali towards mid-off.
Marnus manages to run-himself out in bizarre fashion
There was really no opportunity of a run on the offer, but Marnus still decided to try his luck at one. But unfortunately, Sajid Khan was quick to collect and lob the ball back at the stumps to send Marnus back into the hut without disturbing the scoreboard. Consequently, the top-ranked test batter in the world had to walk off without scoring a single-run on a surface that looked tailor-made for his style of batting.
The dismal way in which he walked off the field after given out was conspicuous enough to suggest how much he rued his dismissal. But the true meme-worthy moment came a while later, when the on-field cameras spotted Marnus sitting in the dugout while sporting the most distraught of expressions on his face.
Thankfully, it’s fair to say now that Marnus Labuschagne is over that misery of a brain-fade moment, and can now even laugh about the dismissal. He took to his Instagram to post the still of his distraught face, captioning the photo with his signature ‘no-run!’ call.
