Rajasthan Royals amassed the highest total in an inning for this season of the Indian Premier League as they scored a mammoth 222 runs in the match against Delhi Capitals. While the 34th match of IPL was a run-fest, it also witnessed the first big controversy of the 15th edition.
It all happened in the last over of the match where angry Rishabh Pant sent Pravin Amre on ground to protest umpire’s decision. This move by the Delhi captain has created a furore and the netizens have mixed reviews about the same.
After winning the toss, the Delhi skipper chose to bowl first as has been the trend this season. The opening pair of Rajasthan was unshakable as they notched-up a huge 155-run partnership. Jos Butler scored his third century of this season, while Devdutt Padikkal ably supported him with his half-century. Apart from scintillating batting by the RR batsmen, the match is going to be remembered for an incident that took place in the last over where angry Rishabh Pant did the unthinkable.
Delhi Capitals was chasing a steep target of 223 and it all came down to the last two overs of the match where Delhi needed 36 off 12 deliveries. Prasidh Krishna bowled an outstanding penultimate over where he gave no run and claimed a wicket.
The equation was 36 in 6 deliveries now and Rovman Powell hit 3 consecutive sixes on the first three deliveries of the last over. The controversy happened on the fourth ball, which according to angry Rishabh Pant should have been called a no ball for height.

The Delhi captain looked miffed with the on-field umpire’s decision and even sent coach Pravin Amre on the field to intervene. Pant was also seen calling the batsman back in the dugout which has become the talk of the town and the highlight of the match.
Eventually, Powell continued, but he couldn’t take his team home as the ask was quite high. With this victory, Rajasthan has acquired the first place on the points table with 10 points, while Delhi is on sixth position with 6 points.
