Sunil Gavaskar backs R Ashwin
Rajasthan Royals have had a great outing so far in the 2022 season of IPL. They maintained their position in the Top-4 from day 1 of their first match and ultimately ended the league stage in the second position. One of the main reasons why RR broke into the Top-2 is R Ashwin, who shined in all the departments in their match against Chennai Super Kings. Following Ashwin’s performance, Sunil Gavaskar backs him to be an unmissable part of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2022.
Sunil Gavaskar backs R Ashwin because he has been phenomenal in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals. Though Ashwin is popular for his bowling expertise, he showed everyone that he can bat too and can prove to be an asset for his team. Ashwin has picked up 11 wickets in the league so far and in addition to that, he has scored 183 runs which includes a match-winning knock of 40 runs against CSK.
He was all praise for R Ashwin as Sunil Gavaskar backs the 35-year-old Indian cricketer. Talking to Star Sports, he said, “I think he wanted to show he can bat anywhere. He started his career as an opening batsman. Now he has become one of the greatest spinners in the game. He has got five Test hundreds. He has now shown that he can do it in the ultra-short format and be in the Indian team for the World Cup in Australia.”
Team India is going to play South Africa for 5-match T20I series for which the 18-member squad was announced on Sunday. Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh have got a maiden call-up while Rahul Tripathi who has been exceptional for Sunrisers Hyderabad was not picked by the selectors. Some experienced players have made a comeback in the form of Dinesh Karthik and Kuldeep Yadav.
