Indian Premier League is the biggest cricket league in the world and one of the biggest sporting events in all sports. An e-auction for IPL Digital rights was held this week and the league raked in moolah becoming the second richest league in the world. BCCI secretary also announced that they are going to have a stretched window of 2 and a half months for IPL which has left PCB worried.

PCB worried after Jay Shah’s IPL announcement

Over the years, IPL has become the biggest and the richest cricketing league with players from almost all the Test-playing nations participating in it with great enthusiasm. The league has also proved to be a stage where a lot of young talent comes to the fore. Considering its popularity, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that the board is going to have a 2 and a half months window for the league and this has made PCB worried.

The announcement by Jay Shah has made PCB worried because they think that a long window of over two months will become an obstacle for the international series. PCB is planning to discuss the topic with other international boards as to what they think about the decision taken by BCCI. It is to note that in his statement, Jay Shah has mentioned that the BCCI has already discussed the topic with other boards and also the ICC.

“The ICC board meeting will be held during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July and this matter will probably be discussed there. Mr Jay Shah has said that the BCCI is committed to international bilateral cricket but with so many leagues cropping up and the IPL planning expansion this has to be discussed among the cricket boards,” a PCB source told NDTV.

It is noteworthy that Pakistani players have not been a part of IPL ever since its second season. The first season saw some Pakistani players but from the next season onwards, there was no Pakistani player in the IPL. As for now, the announcement by Jay Shah has left PCB worried and it is to be seen what will be the outcome of the discussions the board has with other international boards.
