The rise of Marnus Labuschagne has been quite the deal. Ever since coming in as the first-ever concussion substitute to a hazy Steve Smith, Labuschagne has taken every opportunity with both hands. Especially in the longest format of the game.

Marnus Labuschagne has emerged as an integral part of the Australian test team and is currently placed 2nd on ICC’s Test Batting charts. The batter already has 7 test hundreds and 13 test fifties to his name.

Interestingly, Labuschagne isn’t just another morose class batsman.

Rather, he seems to have fun every second that he has a bat in hand and a pitch under his feet. Doesn’t matter if it is not a proper bat. Doesn’t matter if it is not a proper pitch. 

Marnus Labuschagne plays ‘campsite cricket’

Kangaroo’s new no. 3 has recently shared a clip on his Twitter account which has generated all sorts of responses.

In the clip, Labuschagne can be seen batting (with a narrow bat-like stick) against his relatives in a game of cricket on a campsite turf that looks as worn out as a Day-5 Asian pitch.

For every shot that Marnus plays, his pet dog can be seen chasing the tennis ball & returning it to his mates, adding a touch of wholesome to the video.

The latter may be a sly dig at the right-hander, who is yet to be tested at Indian rank-turners. Thus far, Marnus Labuschagne has only scored a solitary century (his recent one against Sri Lanka) in the Asian continent. The iconic Border-Gavaskar trophy will be his first. 

The 2023 BG trophy will be an important battle in Australia & India’s journey to the 2023 World Test Championship finale.

Eight aussie players –including Will Pucovski– are set to fly in for a ten-day training camp at Chepauk next month. The decision may extract negative responses from some, however, it comes in an act of mutual benefit as Chetan Sakariya and Mukesh Chaudhary get the chance to partake in an aussie tournament in return.
