Team India played second ODI of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Indian wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson got hailed for his heartwarming gesture as he helped the groundsmen in the rain-affected game.
Twitter hails Sanju Samson for helping groundsmen
The second ODI between India and New Zealand was played amid intermittent rain. Rain forced the umpires to shorten the game as it was reduced to a 29-over match and then it was cancelled due to the return of the rain. When the rain stopped, India’s wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson was seen helping the groundsmen to make the field playable so as to resume the game.
A video has gone viral on social media in which Sanju Samson could be seen helping the ground staff with the covers so as to reduce the delay in resuming the game. Rajasthan Royals’ official Twitter account shared the video showing Sanju Samson helping the ground staff. The Indian cricket team fans applauded Samson for his heartwarming gesture which showed his humility. Team India’s star batter Suryakumar Yadav too was seen helping the ground staff after the rain stopped.
The in-form batter Sanju Samson wasn’t included in the playing XI as the Indian Team replaced him with Deepak Hooda in order to get a sixth bowling option. The Rajasthan Royals captain was also benched for the entire T20I series and was then got his opportunity in the first ODI where he played a crucial knock of 36 runs off just 38 deliveries and helped Indian team reach a total of 306 runs.

The game got interrupted due to rain at the end of 4.5 overs and then the match was shortened to 29-overs per innings. As the match resumed, Team India’s skipper lost his wicket as he tried playing few shots in order to increase the run rate considering the shortened game. Team India then reached to 89-1 in 12.5 overs as Shubman Gill took the innings forward along with Suryakumar Yadav who played his shots right from the word go. Gill was playing at 45 and Yadav at 34 when it drizzled again and the game was eventually called off.
