Pakistan’s emerging wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan faced a terrible blow on his head during the Lanka Premier League game between the Galle Gladiators and the Kandy Falcons.
He was in some serious pain as he was stretchered off during the game at the Pallekele International Stadium on Monday, December 12.
Azam Khan hospitalized after getting hurt behind the stumps
Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Pradeep bowled a back off the hand slower leg-side delivery to batter Chamika Karunaratne during the 16th over of the Kandy Falcons’ innings. Karunaratne let the ball go without attempting a shot in order to get a wide. The ball bounced again before reaching the wicketkeeper and Azam Khan got completely deceived by the uneven bounce.
Wicketkeeper Azam Khan couldn’t grab the ball and eventually faced a nasty blow on his head. Azam could not recover from the terrible blow and looked in serious pain as the umpires called for the physio. The intensity of the pain was so high that Azam Khan had to be carried out on a stretcher from the field and was shifted to a hospital in Pallekele.

Azam Khan’s father and former Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan too checked his son’s medical condition but didn’t show any emotions. Moin Khan looked quite certain that the injury wasn’t too bad as he tapped Azam’s leg when he was being stretchered off. Moin Khan is currently the head coach of LPL side Galle Gladiators.
Azam Khan’s team Galle Gladiators took to Twitter after the forgetful incident and wrote, “Prayers for @MAzamKhan45’s speedy recovery !! He took a blow on his head while keeping wickets!! He’s been taken for medical care, Prayers for you Gladiator.” As per the reports, his scans were alright and he was doing fine a few hours later.

Even though Galle Gladiators missed the services of 24-year old keeper, they managed to defend a 153-run total and defeated the Kandy Falcons by 12 runs. The emerging wicketkeeper has been ruled out of Gladiators’ next game but the franchise will be hoping for his speedy recovery so that he can join the Gladiators squad for the next few matches.
