All eyes will be on the highly anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy taking place in India next month. The faith of India’s qualification is in their own hands if they win the BGT 2023. Here is how the Border-Gavaskar Series result will decide WTC Finalists.
Australia is currently in the best position in the WTC Points Table and has already qualified for the finals. Australia are having 78.57 PCT which is way higher than anyone in the points table. They still have 5 games left to play.
Contenders to play WTC 2023 Finals
Except Australia, no team has qualified for the WTC Finals yet. Teams like England, Pakistan, West Indies, and defending champions New Zealand are already out of the race.
Only three teams are fighting for the 2nd spot in the WTC points table. The top 2 teams of the table will square off in the finals at the Oval in June this year.
India, South Africa, and Sri Lanka are in the hunt of playing the WTC Final against Australia at the Oval later this year. Keeping in mind the remaining games of all three teams, India is in the pole position to secure their place in the finals.
Border-Gavaskar Series result to decide WTC Finalists: India can qualify in two ways
India can qualify for the WTC Final if they manage to defeat Australia in the upcoming 4 match test series. Records of India are also extraordinary as they haven’t lost a test series since 2012 on their home soil.
Indian spinners have made it impossible to defeat India at home in a test series. Indian spinners will play a huge role in winning the series against high in confident Aussie batters.
India is currently sitting at the second spot in the points table with a PCT of 58.93 and 4 games remaining. Now the Border Gavaskar Trophy will decide the faith of the Indian team.
How can South Africa qualify for the WTC Final 2023
Proteas WTC Final hopes are getting a bit timid now as they are on the verge of getting whitewashed by Australia away from home. South Africa has lost the first two tests of the series and is in a very weak position in the third test as well.
For South Africa to qualify for the finals they need to win 3 out of the 3 remaining matches which looks almost impossible now. The proteas have 50.00 PCT right now with 3 games remaining.
Sri Lanka has to win both games against New Zealand and then hope India and South Africa lose at least 2 games. Sri Lanka has 53.33 PCT with a 2-match test series against New Zealand to go.
The WTC points table is getting tight with each passing day. Australia’s tour of India will be a much-awaited series as it will decide the faith of Sri Lanka and South Africa as well.
