Team India’s skipper Rohit Sharma has constantly been under the scanner for his fitness as he has missed a number of series due to multiple injuries and fitness issues.
Now, India’s legendary captain Kapil Dev has come up with a bold statement about Rohit Sharma’s fitness as he doubts whether Rohit is fit enough to lead the Indian team.
There is a huge doubt over Rohit’s fitness says Kapil Dev
Rohit Sharma injured his thumb while fielding in the slips in the second ODI against Bangladesh after which he missed the next ODI and the test series as well. This was not the first time when India’s skipper faced injury issues as he has already missed 19 games across formats after he was declared Team India’s all-format captain earlier last year.
India’s former captain Kapil Dev believes Rohit’s fitness is a huge concern going into major tournaments. “There’s no shortcoming in Rohit Sharma. He has everything but I personally think, there is a huge question mark over his fitness. Is he fit enough? Because a captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter, the teammates should feel proud of their captain,” Kapil Dev said on ABP News.
“I can say with surety that there is a huge doubt over Rohit’s fitness. There has been a lot of criticism that he hasn’t scored that many runs since he has become captain, I kind of agree with it but I don’t think there is any issue with his cricketing skills. He is a very successful cricketer. If he gets fitter, the entire team will rally around him,” the former captain further added.
Team India has played 68 matches across formats since Rohit took over from Virat Kohli as the captain of the Indian side. Rohit Sharma has missed 19 out of these 68 games which certainly raises a question mark on his fitness.

2023 is a crucial year for the Indian team as the ODI World Cup is scheduled in October-November while the World Test Championship final will be played in June. Team India will badly need a fully fit Rohit Sharma for these marquee tournaments.
