Veteran umpire Marais Erasmus was standing as leg umpire in the first ODI of the SAvsENG series. During the second innings of the match, Jason Roy was at the crease batting superbly. Roy played a superb backfoot punch to complete his century while Erasmus standing on the leg umpire position was busy with his own things.
Netizens troll Umpire Erasmus for missing a delivery
Nobody noticed that Erasmus was paying attention to something else until the replay of Jason Roy’s century-completing shot was displayed on the big screen. Erasmus was having his back facing toward the striker’s end as seen in the clip.

Not to mention Erasmus is an exceptional umpire and probably the best in the business currently. Despite all of his achievements in the past, he is facing a lot of criticism after the first ODI. Here is how Twitter reacted to the incident.

Despite Jason Roy’s splendid comeback ton England fell short of 27 runs in the 1st ODI
At the Manguang Oval South, African bowlers pull off a great comeback despite England being 146/1 after 20 overs. After winning the toss South Africa opted to bat first and scored 298 runs in the loss of 7 wickets. Rassie Van der Dussen scored his 4th ODI ton and David Miller also reached a hard-fought fifty.
For England, the man of the tournament of T20 World Cup 2022 Sam Curran picked up three crucial wickets. Jofra Archer in his comeback after injury was a bit scratched and he went for some runs.
In reply to South Africa’s 298 runs the English started off superbly. Jason took the charge along with Dawid Malan in the opening. Till the time Malan and Roy were batting it looked like the game will be done and dusted before the 40th Over.
Ever since England lost their first wicket they struggled to make a good partnership. In the end, they were bowled out on 271 in the 45th over of the game. Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala put on a show in the bowling for the Proteas.
