Team India’s captaincy has been the talk of the town for the past couple of years right since Virat Kohli resigned as the captain of the Indian cricket team.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes there are two young players who are bright prospects for Team India’s captaincy post in the future.

Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian team in Test and ODI formats while Hardik Pandya has been handed the responsibilities for the shortest format. Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes Rohit will continue captaining the test side till the World Test Championship 2023 while Hardik will continue to lead the T20 side till the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Aakash Chopra while speaking on Jio Cinema also stated that the Indian team might continue with the split-captaincy pattern while he picked Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant as future prospects for the leadership position once Rohit is ready to pass on the baton.
“Hardik Pandya is currently the captain in the T20 format, and I think he will continue to do so and in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, you will see Pandya be the captain of the Indian team. In One-Day cricket, Rohit Sharma will continue to be the captain till the World Cup. But I think in the long term, in terms of India’s captaincy, it will be Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. These are my two candidates for India’s captaincy in the future,” the former opener said on Jio Cinema.
Team India’s skipper Rohit Sharma has suffered a few injuries in the recent past due to which he has missed a couple of important series and considering his age the Indian team selectors might be tempted to start looking for future options to lead the Indian team.
Rishabh Pant leads the Delhi Capitals team in the Indian Premier League while he has also led the Indian team in a few games in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Both Pant and Gill represented the Indian Under-19 team as vice-captain in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
