Mumbai Indians’ key pace bowler Chris Jordan has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to an injury. England pacer Chris Jordan has been named as the replacement of injured Jofra Archer by the MI franchise for the remaining games of the ongoing season of IPL.
Jofra Archer has been struggling with injuries for the past couple of years. The MI pacer played only 5 games in IPL 2023 and scalped just a couple of wickets as he never looked in rhythm throughout the tournament. His last appearance came against the Chennai Super Kings last week in which he couldn’t create any sort of impact.
Chris Jordan set to join MI squad to replace injured Jofra Archer
“Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday named Chris Jordan as a replacement for the injured Jofra Archer for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023,” said IPL in a release.
The IPL release does not clarify any details about Jofra Archer’s injury but it is believed to be his right elbow that has been giving him trouble for the last two years. The MI pacer missed the entire IPL 2022. He played Mumbai Indians’ first game of this season but missed four games on the trot after which there were speculations about him being unfit.
“England all-rounder, Chris Jordan will join the MI squad for the rest of the season, replacing Jofra Archer, whose recovery and fitness continues to be monitored by ECB. Jofra will return home to focus on his rehabilitation,” Mumbai Indians said in a statement.
“Archer was a key part of our campaign in the first half of this season. We wish him the best and cannot wait to have him back with us, fitter, stronger, quicker, deadlier,” the statement further said.
Chris Jordan made his IPL debut in the year 2016. The English pacer has represented multiple franchises in IPL including Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings. However, the pacer hasn’t reciprocated the same success in IPL as he does for his national side.

Chris Jordan has so far played 28 IPL games and has 27 wickets against his name. Jordan has represented England in 87 T20Is and has scalped 96 T20I wickets. The right-arm pacer will join Mumbai Indians for a price of INR 2 Crore as the Rohit Sharma-led side will look to use his death bowling skills as they have leaked a lot of runs at the death.
