England declared the innings on the first day of the first test of the Ashes series, with just 30 minutes of the day left to play. Joe Root’s century and Johny Bairstow’s thrilling knock led Ben Strokes to declare at 393 runs. However the talk of the day is neither Joe Root nor Bairstow, but, everyone is talking about the unfortunate wicket of Harry Brook.Â
Harry Brook was batting on 32 runs when he got bowled by Nathon Lyon in the most unexpected manner. Videos of Brook’s wicket are getting viral on social media which show the ball hitting the pads and ending up hitting the wickets. Aussies were initially looking for a catch, However, God had some other plans for Brook’s dismissal.

In the meantime, England’s former test captain Michael Vaughan quoted that if he was the captain, he would not have had the courage to declare the innings.
‘I would not have done it, if it was me. Because you cannot say what will happen next. Anyway, kudos to Ben Stokes for that decision. You may remember the last Ashes series. For the first time in my life, England gave Australia the first blow by doing what no other team had done before. If I was the captain, I would have tried to get a few more runs, especially when Joe Root was at the crease with a century,’ he was quoted as telling the BBC.Â
England who won the toss elected to bat first and lost Ben Duckett on the fourth ball of the fourth over, and for Aussies Nathon Lyon took 4 wickets in his spell with Josh Hazlewood taking 2 wickets and Scott Boland and Cameron Green both took a wicket each.
England declared the innings at 393/8 on the first day with Joe Root being on the strike and invited Aussies to bat for the last 30 minutes of the day. Even after bowling 4 overs England failed to take any wickets and the Aussies left the crease with 14 runs on board without losing any wicket.
