The most anticipated match of the marquee event between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is likely to be rescheduled. Although, the schedule has already been announced, However, some amendments can be done. According to a report by Indian Express, the clash between the Arch-rivals can be rescheduled, as October 15, also marks the beginning of “Navratri”. A festival celebrated with a night-long Garba across India for a duration of 9 days.
The reports suggest to reschedule the clash due to some security issues. “We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon. We have been told by the security agencies that a high-profile game like India vs Pakistan, for which thousands of traveling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, should be avoided since they will be stretched because of Navratri,” a source told the Indian Express.
If the clash is rescheduled then it will create a logistics backlash, as many cricket fans have already booked the match tickets, accommodations and travel tickets surrounding the match dates. Some local reports have also suggested that some of the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) have reached out to many hospitals in Ahmedabad for beds before and after the Ind-Pak clash.
There are 4 group matches to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, including the inaugural match between England vs New Zealand, India v/s Pakistan, Australia v/s England and South Africa vs Afghanistan. Apart from the 4 group matches, the Finals of the ODI World Cup will also be played at Narendra Modi Stadium.
According to the report by Indian Express, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has called for a meeting with the members of all hosting venues. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Delhi on July 27, where the decision will be taken regarding the India-Pak October 15 clash.
“I feel it will be in the best interest of all concerned that we meet again to exchange notes and take stock of any issue which needs discussion and decision. Accordingly, you are hereby requested to attend a meeting of the World Cup hosting associations,” the letter read.
