Australia national cricket team’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is expected to give the upcoming ODI series against Team India a miss this time around. The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 tournament is less than a month away from getting underway. The participating teams want their marquee players to be fit and ready to play the main event. Injuries to players can vary in seriousness, from minor problems that may heal quickly to more serious injuries that can force cricketers to even skip the tournament entirely.
As far as Glenn Maxwell’s case is concerned, he will be skipping the ODI series against India owing to an ankle issue. Australia’s most prolific all-rounder was in the rainbow nation for the team’s recently concluded T20I series against South Africa. However, he had to give the ODI series a miss owing to a soreness in his ankle. Australia will lock horns with Team India before the 50-over World Cup but the Aussies will miss the services of Glenn Maxwell.

Australia will come to India to play limited-overs leg including 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The tour kick-starts with the ODI series, with the ODI opener slated to be held on September 22. After the ODI series, Australia will be taking part in the ODI World Cup in India. Once the marquee event comes to a close, Aussies will stay in India to resume the remaining part of the tour to play five T20Is, with the T20I opener slated to be played on November 23.
The all-rounder echoed that he still wants to play some part in the ODI series against Team India. However, the Australian selectors don’t want to put too much pressure on the all-rounder such that he can recharge his batteries to spice it up in the ODI World Cup. “I still want to play some part of that India series, but I’m not feeling any pressure on it. The selectors and the staff have been brilliant with me as well,” Maxwell said.
“They don’t want to put too much pressure on me to sort of set that date because they know they’ve got a bit of extra time before the World Cup. So instead of rushing it and probably putting myself a week or two behind, being able to give myself extra time and make sure we get through the whole tournament,” the all-rounder was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
