The first ODI between India and Australia got underway today in Mohali. The cricket fraternity witnessed a highly competitive cricketing action from both sides. India were in complete control for the most part of the game before the Aussies gradually increased their tempo at the fag end of the innings. Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Men in Yellow lost their skipper, Mitchell Marsh for just 4 runs, courtesy of Mohammed Shami’s sensational delivery.
However, David Warner and Steve Smith steadied the ship by adding 94 runs for the second wicket. David Warner was the pick of the batters as he scored a half-century before getting dismissed for 52 off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. Mohammed Shami once again bowled a terrific delivery and shattered Smith’s stumps. Australia’s best batter departed after scoring 41.
KL Rahul’s misfield helps India secure Cameron Green’s run-out
Indian players namely KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer came under fire for their shoddy fielding efforts during the passage of the play. KL Rahul hasn’t been up to the mark as a wicketkeeper. He missed an easy run-out chance while trying to get rid of Marnus Labuschagne. During the second ball of the 40th over, Cameron Green stepped down the track in an attempt to hit Mohammed Shami for a possible six or four.

However, Shami kept the ball a tad low which forced Green to nudge the ball behind the stumps. KL Rahul was clumsy once again as he failed to stop the ball and fortunately, his misfield turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it helped India secure Cameron Green’s wicket. There was a slight miscommunication between Josh Inglis and Cameron Green which triggered a mix-up, leading to Green’s run-out.

Team India had the upper hand over Australia till 42 overs before the visitors raised their bar and accelerated the scoreboard by accumulating runs at a rapid pace. In the end, Aussies were bowled out for 276. Australian skipper Pat Cummins chipped in with a quickfire cameo as he scored 21 off 9 balls including 2 fours and a six. Mohammed Shami was the wrecker-in-chief for India as he registered 5/51 in his quota of 10 overs.
