‘He gets chances but…’ – Sreesanth gives his Honest Verdict on Sanju Samson

The World Cup 2023 is around the corner and once again Sanju Samson has been sidelined from the Indian squad like every other edition. Sanju has been getting a lot of sympathy from the fans for not getting selected in any of the Multination tournaments even after being in the mix for a long time. While former Indian cricketer Sreesanth thinks otherwise. 

BCCI has announced the squad for the forthcoming World Cup in which the talented batter Sanju Samson is on standby. He is averaging over 55 after playing 13 ODI matches but the selectors went with Suryakumar Yadav who has a average of just over 25. 

The axing of Sanju Samson from the Indian squad that too just before the World Cup has disappointed a lot of fans. Not just the fans but the experts like Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravi Shastri have also rated the player highly and think that he deserves a chance. 

However, the former Indian fast bowler Sreesanth doesn’t think that Sanju has got fewer chances instead he said Sanju has wasted the opportunities he got. 

‘He doesn’t listen’ Sreesanth not happy with Sanju’s attitude

Where Sanju has been getting a lot of sympathetic messages from everyone around the country for getting sidelined from the Indian World Cup squad, his fellow state player has no sympathy for him. Sreesanth was asked about Sanju not getting picked in the 15-man squad of the World Cup in a chat with Sportskeeda.

The 40-year-old replied “I think it’s the right decision because it’s very important for a player to understand himself, From Gavaskar sir to Harsha Bhogle sir and Ravi Shastri sir, everyone rates him highly. There’s no doubt about his ability. But the approach… he doesn’t listen when someone asks him to play according to pitch. He can change that attitude.”

Sreesanth demands consistency from Sanju Samson in batting

The 40-year-old pace bowler is not happy with Sanju wasting his special talent due to his bad attitude. He feels Sanju needs to calm himself while batting against small opposition whenever he gets a chance. He added “All of Malyali people who support him, including me, say he doesn’t get chances. We can’t say that. He got chances against Ireland and Sri Lanka, he has been playing IPL for 10 years. He has been playing since 2013, has been the captain too, and has scored just three 100s and he hasn’t shown consistency,“
