The 13th season of men’s Big Bash League is set to commence on December 7. The Australian Cricket board has modified the tournament format this time, reducing the number of games to 44 from the previous 61 in the earlier seasons while the number of teams has remained at 8. In this space, we have provided the full Big Bash League 2023-24 schedule and squads of the team.
BBL 2023-24 Playing Format
Due to poor viewership in the last few seasons, the Australian board has opted to decrease the total number of matches to 44. Out of these, 40 will be league matches, while the remaining 4 will be the Qualifier, Knockout, Challenger, and Final. With this new format, the BBL has abandoned the previous structure where the no. 5 and no. 4 teams used to play the Eliminator, and the winner would then qualify for the Knockout match.
As per the new BBL format, each team will now play 10 matches during the league stage. The 4 teams that will finish at the top of the table will qualify for the playoffs, while the bottom 4 will be eliminated. The top two teams will face off in the Qualifier, where the winner advances directly to the final, and the losing team qualifies for the Challenger. Meanwhile, the teams ranked third and fourth will compete in the Knockout match, with the winner advancing to the Challenger and the loser being eliminated. Then, the Challenger winner will become the second finalist.
Big Bash League 2023-24 Schedule
The tournament will kick off with the Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars match at The Gabba on December 7, and the season will conclude with the final scheduled to be played on January 24. Here’s the complete schedule of BBL 2023-24 season.
