IPL is now 5 months away to kick start. The hype of the 2020 season is started increasing before the auction. The auction is on 19th December at Kolkata and before that BCCI has started their process for the upcoming season. There were a lot of discussions about the rules in the league.
Recently, BCCI had planned a ‘Power Player’ rule which allows teams to substitute players. But IPL’s governing council didn’t allow this rule for the upcoming season as they want to test this rule in domestic leagues before applying in the cash-rich league. However, in the meeting, the IPL governing council planned to assign an extra umpire in IPL matches just to check no-balls. The decision came in the process because many umpiring blunders were witnessed during IPL 2019.
New Cities In IPL 2020
There were also talks of adding two more teams but IPL family might have to wait the 2021 season. However, BCCI is likely to add new venues for the upcoming season. According to reports, Lucknow, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will be 3 new 2nd home venues.
Speaking to IANS, a BCCI official said that while Kings XI Punjab are keen to make Lucknow their second home, Rajasthan Royals wants to shift from Ahmedabad to Guwahati. While the home team of Thiruvananthapuram is yet to be decided, it is being said that it could move in as the third new venue thanks to the facilities on offer and the cricket crazy fans in the city.
BCCI has also allowed IPL franchises to play friendly matches outside India. This idea was of most successful franchise Mumbai Indians. MI’s idea is to promote brand IPL in the USA and develop a new market for the game. The idea is to attract cricket lovers by bringing their favourite stars to them and get them personal with their favourite players.
