David Warner is currently the most prolific active Australian batsman. The southpaw recently retired from Test and ODI formats and is now focusing solely on T20 cricket. With a reduced workload, he has signed a contract with the BBL team Sydney Thunder. He will play his first Big Bash League match of the 2023-24 season today. Last season, he was signed by Sydney Thunder and played his first BBL game after a gap of 8 years.
David Warner Arrived At SCG Via Helicopter
Warner is set to play Sydney derby (Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder) at the iconic SCG stadium. In a bid to make his return memorable, organizers planned a grand entrance for Warner. After attending his brother’s wedding, David Warner arrived at the SCG outfield in style, flying via helicopter.
The same venue hosted David Warner’s farewell Test last week. The helicopter landed on the outfield where ‘Thanks. Dave’ was painted during his farewell Test. It’s nothing short of a Indian movie scene and considering David Warner’s fondness for South Indian cinema, he has undoubtedly relished his grand arrival.

David Warner has signed a 2-year deal with Sydney Thunder, where he is set to receive AUD 70,000 (approximately INR 39 lakh) for each game played during this tenure. Despite featuring in just 9 matches in his BBL career, the southpaw has an exceptional record, amassing 251 runs including a century, with an impressive average of 35.86.
Sydney Thunder is scheduled to play three more league matches this season, with the last one set for January 17. David Warner is expected to participate in all three clashes. He is also committed to playing in the ILT20 league starting on the 19th, coinciding with the BBL playoffs.

Nevertheless, the chances of Sydney Thunder qualifying for the playoffs are minimal, as they have won only one out of their first seven games in the season. To secure a playoff spot, they must win all three remaining matches, and their fate will also hinge on the results of other teams’ matches.
