One of the toughest tasks that a fielder encounters near the boundary rope is he will be forced to make decisions that are sometimes not in his control. At times, there will be tricky situations when he wouldn’t take the catch since the ball could be out of his reach. In such cases, a fielder, with a presence of mind, will try his maximum best to save a certain six, which is the best thing to do as well.

During the third and final T20I between India and Afghanistan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Virat Kohli hogged the limelight after he turned superman to save a six against the run of play. During Afghanistan’s innings, the top-order batters were at their imperious best as they took India’s bowling attack to the cleaners. Virat Kohli’s spectacular effort came at a time when Afghanistan were at 165/4.

The Afghans who lost the first two T20Is and the series, made a desperate attempt to put up a great fight in the run-chase. During the fifth ball of the 17th over, Karim Janat tried to smack Washington Sundar’s delivery for a six over the long-on. As it turned out, it seemed as if the ball would go on to sail over the ropes but Virat Kohli who was patrolling the fielding position had other ideas.

The veteran cricketer who is an exceptional fielder himself, timed his jump to perfection in such a way that he was able to get hold of the ball to some extent before he managed to throw it on the turf. His sensational fielding effort helped the team save crucial runs. Talking about the game, India posted 212/4 in their quota of 20 overs, courtesy of Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 121* and Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 69*.

In reply, Afghanistan managed to draw the game before the fate of the match was decided based on the Super Over. While Afghanistan set up a target of 17, India managed to score 16 runs, which led to another Super Over. This time around, India set up a target of 12. In response, the visitors could just 1 run and lost two wickets, courtesy of Ravi Bishnoi’s tactical bowling. India won the Super Over and clinched the series by 3-0.
