India’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer hasn’t yet found his rhythm going in the ongoing Test series against England. The right-handed batter failed to dictate terms in the first Test in Hyderabad, wherein he scored 35 and 14 in the first and second innings respectively. His underwhelming performance certainly dented his confidence as he failed to operate in full form, once again, in the second Test in Vizag on February 2.
Coming out to bat at No.4, the 29-year-old was supposed to be acting as a thrusting force in anchoring the innings. However, that wasn’t meant to be as he was dismissed owing to a poor shot selection, a major chink that has been there in his batting armour. The fact that he hasn’t been able to figure out ways to enhance his technique has put him on the back foot.
If he fails to correct his batting woes, then, he might be on his way to hitting the rock bottom of his Test career, whose performance in Tests did take a turn for the worse. His mode of dismissal was something that he needed to assess because he was dismissed on a track when England got a wicket out of nowhere. Iyer tried to cut the ball but it turned out to be wrong as he departed after scoring 27 runs (3 fours).

However, Shreyas Iyer, who was very much prepared for anything in store, quickly countered by hitting the ball over the leg side over a four. The video clip of the same has been doing the rounds on social media. Iyer failed to capitalize on the start as he ended up throwing his wicket at an important stage. Meanwhile, Team India ended Day 1 with 336/6, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin batting on 179* and 5* respectively.
