Fielders play a paramount role during the passage of play as they are supposed to remain alert. They are responsible for stopping the flow of runs with their dives. Besides that, they do offer work-rate in terms of hitting the bull’s eye, leading to run-outs and take acrobatic catches as well. On the contrary, communication should also be the key between the fielders else there is a high chance of them getting injured.
During the PSL 2024 game between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings, Shadab Khan and Alex Hales were involved in a painful collision before they fell flat on the turf. The unexpected incident happened during the last ball of Karachi Kings’ innings, when Kieron Pollard hit Hunain Shah’s ball for a certain six towards the straight hit fielding area. However, Pollard’s shot lacked the elevation as the ball’s trajectory came down quite a bit.

After the game, Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan said, “When you win, sometimes your mistakes are covered. Lovely win, nice how the team picked up after the loss in the last game. We were not up to the mark in our fielding. We have to put more energy in the field. As a bowling unit we were very good. Sometimes you go for runs but if we field better it’s a different ball game.”
