India’s premier fast bowler Mohammed Shami was last seen in cricketing action during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 tournament, with his appearance coming against Australia in the final on November 19. It is worth mentioning here that the 33-year-old pacer gave absolutely everything for Team India in the World Cup 2023 wherein he finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets to his name, one more than Adam Zampa who finished with 23 wickets.
The Ahmedabad-based franchise retained the senior pro ahead of the auction. Unfortunately, he won’t be a part of the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024 since he underwent surgery on his injured ankle, the BCCI confirmed the development. Shami traveled all the way to the UK to treat his ankle. He played a substantial role in the last season for GT, bagging 28 wickets in 17 games and deservedly won the Purple Cap.

Recently, the experienced campaigner took to his official Instagram handle and shared a picture of his injury. “Hello everyone! I wanted to provide an update on my recovery progress. It has been 15 days since my surgery, and I recently had my stitches removed. I am thankful for the advancements I have achieved and looking forward to the next stage of my healing journey,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Shami made the headlines after he liked an offensive tweet featuring Hardik Pandya. One of the tweets read, “Shami bhai gave his 100 per cent even when he was in pain during World Cup, then there is one chapri kalu who shown fake injury to keep himself available for IPL”. This tweet was pointing towards Hardik Pandya who was ruled out midway through the World Cup 2023 tournament due to an injury and that he is geared up to lead Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024.
The pacer could potentially make his comeback in the Test series against Bangladesh, slated to be held in September later this year. Team India will host Bangladesh for two-match Test series and three T20 International matches.
