Saturday night in Abu Dhabi was glamoured by Bollywood stars as the industry gathered for the IIFA Awards 2024. The King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, hosted the event with grace and also won the Best Actor award for his role in Jawan. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni also received a mention from Shah Rukh during the event.

SRK and Karan Johar were on stage when he joked with his good friend. Shah Rukh said, ‘Do you know the greatest thing about legends? They know when to stop, and when to retire. Like the great Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Chhetri the footballer, and Roger Federer, the tennis legend—they all knew when to retire. And it’s time you do too. So please go back, thank you very much’.
In response, Karan Johar quipped, ‘By that standard, why don’t you retire?’ Shah Rukh Khan delivered an amusing reply that left the crowd cheering, ‘Me and MS Dhoni are a different kind of legend; even after saying no, we end up playing 10 more IPL seasons’.
Vicky Kaushal, the co-host of the event, added to the epic moment by praising the legacy of SRK and Dhoni, saying, ‘Retirement is for legends; kings are forever.’ Here’s the video.

It was the 24th IIFA Awards event. Shah Rukh Khan won Best Actor for Jawan, while Rani Mukerji took home the Best Actress award for her role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal won the Best Film award. Another major award, Best Director, was earned by Vidhu Vinod Chopra for the movie 12th Fail.

Now, turning to MS Dhoni, he is ready to affirm Shah Rukh Khan’s words by participating in the IPL 2025 season. Speculation about his retirement from IPL has been ongoing since 2019, when he stepped away from international cricket. Nevertheless, he has shown no signs of stepping back from his responsibilities with CSK, which fans surely appreciate.
