Gautam Gambhir is no stranger to controversies, with his outspoken nature often keeping him in the spotlight. Recently, during a press conference, he made a comment about Ricky Ponting that rubbed former Australian captain Tim Paine the wrong way.
A reporter asked Gambhir about Ricky Ponting’s recent comments on the form of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ponting had questioned their performance after they scored only 93 and 91 runs, respectively, in the Test series against New Zealand. When asked for his thoughts on this, Gambhir responded that Ponting has no right to comment on Indian cricket and should focus on Australian cricket instead.
Gambhir unfit to coach Indian Team, says Tim Paine
Tim Paine was unimpressed by Gambhir’s comment and even called him unfit for the Indian cricket team. Paine emphasized that as a cricket expert, Ponting has every right to share his opinion on world cricket. He criticized Gambhir’s behavior, noting that if a coach cracks over a simple question, it’s not a good sign.
“I don’t like it. It was not a good sign as he was asked a simple question. I think he still thinks that Ricky is playing against him. Ricky is a commentator now, and he is paid to give his opinion on cricketers, and he was spot on. Virat is not in form, but for me, India’s biggest worry is not Rohit and Virat but Gambhir’s ability to stay calm under pressure,” Tim Paine said.

“Ravi Shastri was fantastic as a coach in India’s two series win in Australia. He created a great environment and players were passionate and wanted to achieve something for the country. But Gambhir is not a great fit for the Indian cricket team as you can’t behave like that when you are coaching a team,” he further added.
