Karun Nair has been in sublime touch in the ongoing Ranji Trophy final between Vidarbha and Kerala. After narrowly missing out on a century in the first innings by just 14 runs, he made no mistake in the second inning and reached the three-figure mark. This is his fourth century of the 2024-25 Ranji season in nine games.

Karun Nair’s Cryptic Celebration After Century in Ranji Final

Karun Nair’s celebration caught everyone’s attention. He raised both hands and signaled the number 9 with his fingers—perhaps a subtle message to the selectors, emphasizing his ninth century of this domestic season. Despite consistently delivering standout performances, Nair continues to be overlooked by the Indian selectors.

The last time he played for India was in 2017. In just six Test matches, he achieved the rare feat of scoring a triple century, becoming only the second Indian after Virender Sehwag to do so. Yet, despite such a historic achievement, his opportunities remained limited.

This domestic season, though, he has left no doubt about his form and ability. Few players can claim to have matched his numbers in a single season. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he piled up 779 runs in just eight innings, including five centuries, at a staggering average of 389.5—an almost unreal statistic. His red-hot form has continued in the Ranji Trophy, where he has already amassed over 850 runs in nine matches.

Nair’s performances have been the backbone of Vidarbha’s success, helping them reach both the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy finals. Though they fell short in the Vijay Hazare final against Karnataka, they now find themselves in a commanding position in the ongoing Ranji final. At stumps on Day 4, Vidarbha lead by 286 runs with six wickets in hand, and Nair remains unbeaten on 132 and is determined to take his team to glory.
