May 3, the Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed a storm named Romario Shepherd. In the RCB vs CSK match, the West Indies all-rounder smashed a blazing 53 off just 14 balls. Shepherd went after Khaleel Ahmed in the 19th over, hammering him for 33 runs.
The over began with a sequence of 6, 6, 4, 6. On the fourth delivery, Khaleel bowled a no-ball, which Shepherd also dispatched over the boundary. Khaleel managed to escape further damage by delivering a good wide yorker on the free hit, but the last ball was sent to the fence for four, capping the over at 33 runs. This became the fourth most expensive over in IPL history.
Romario Shepherd Joins Elite List with 4th Most Expensive Over in IPL
- 37 runs conceded by Prasanth Parameswaran to RCB’s Chris Gayle
- 37 runs conceded by Harshal Patel to CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja
- 35 runs conceded by Daniel Sams to KKR’s Pat Cummins
- 33 runs conceded by Khaleel Ahmed to RCB’s Romario Shepherd
This wasn’t the first time Shepherd scored 30+ runs in an over. In IPL 2024, while playing for Mumbai Indians, the Caribbean all-rounder had smashed 32 runs in an over off Anrich Nortje.
By reaching his fifty in just 14 balls, Shepherd also equaled the second-fastest fifty in IPL history, sharing the spot with KL Rahul and Pat Cummins. The record for the fastest IPL fifty belongs to Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hit a half-century in just 13 balls against KKR in the 2023 season.
Romario Shepherd was released by Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2025 auction. Despite his impressive 32-run over in IPL 2024, the franchises showed no interest in him during the 2025 auction. He received only a single bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore who picked him up at his base price of ₹1.5 crore.

The 30-year-old all-rounder began the 2025 season on the bench, with RCB preferring Liam Livingstone in the playing XI. However, with his recent performance, Shepherd has proven to be a valuable asset and could play a crucial role for RCB in the final phase of the season.
