Some fans started worrying that the situation in West Asia could disturb international travel and eventually affect the tournament schedule. The IPL depends heavily on overseas players, broadcasters, and international logistics. So the concern is understandable.
BCCI says IPL plans remain unchanged
According to BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, there is no reason to panic right now. The board has made it clear that the IPL will go ahead as planned.
Rajeev Shukla addressed the issue recently and gave a fairly straightforward response. He said the board has not discussed any changes to the IPL schedule because of the conflict.
“IPL will be held as per schedule. We have released the schedule for 20 matches. The schedule for remaining matches will be released after the Election Commission announces the dates for states going to the election,” Mr Shukla said as quoted by NDTV.
In fact, the tournament preparations are already moving forward. The schedule for the first set of matches has been released, and teams are preparing for the start of the season.
Shukla also explained that the remaining fixtures will be announced later. But that delay has nothing to do with the situation in West Asia.

Travel concerns cannot be ignored
That said, the global situation is not completely irrelevant either. If tensions increase in the region, international travel routes could become complicated. Flights passing through certain areas might face restrictions or delays, which could affect players and support staff who travel from different parts of the world to play in the IPL.
In recent weeks, there have already been reports of flight disruptions affecting teams travelling after international tournaments. Situations like that can create logistical headaches. However, tournaments like the IPL usually find ways to adjust. Players can travel through different routes, and teams often arrive in India well before the tournament begins.
The cash-rich league is one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Broadcasters, sponsors, franchises, and players all depend on it.

Because of that, the BCCI usually plans carefully for unexpected situations. The IPL has dealt with many challenges like the elections, COVID-19 disruptions, and even schedule changes six years ago, and yet the tournament has still managed to go ahead.
That experience gives the organizers confidence that the league can handle external issues as well. At the moment, the message from the BCCI is clear. There is no discussion about postponing or changing the IPL because of the Iran conflict. The tournament is still expected to start according to the original plan.
The league has become a yearly celebration of cricket, and people would rather see matches decided on the field than affected by global politics. The BCCI had earlier announced the schedule for the opening phase of IPL 2026, which will run from March 28 to April 12. A total of 20 matches will be played during this period at different venues across the country.
The season will begin with the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) facing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The opening match is expected to kick off another exciting season of the world’s most popular franchise T20 league.
Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29, Sunday at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, in the second fixture. Rajasthan Royals will play against Chennai Super Kings at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati, on March 30, Monday.
