Manish Pandey to Suresh Raina: Five greatest knocks in IPL Playoffs

The IPL playoffs are where players’ reputations change forever. League-stage runs are important, but knockout performances carry a different weight. Pressure becomes heavier. Crowds become louder. One mistake can end an entire season. That is why only a few batters manage to produce truly unforgettable innings when everything is on the line.

Over the years, IPL fans have witnessed some unbelievable playoff knocks that still live in cricket memories. These were not just big scores. These innings changed finals, broke hearts, silenced stadiums, and created legends.

5. Manish Pandey

The IPL 2014 final between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab felt almost over when Punjab posted a massive total.

Wriddhiman Saha had already played one of the greatest IPL final innings ever with his unbeaten century. Chasing nearly 200 in a final creates enormous pressure because every dot ball increases panic. But Manish Pandey played like pressure did not exist.

Pandey attacked from the beginning and completely changed the mood of the chase. He pitched in with 94 off 50 balls and did not allow Punjab bowlers to settle for even a moment. What made the innings special was the situation. This was not a league-stage match where teams could recover later. This was the final. One mistake could destroy KKR’s title dream.

Instead, Pandey delivered the innings of his life and helped Kolkata lift the trophy.

4. Manvinder Bisla

Some IPL innings become unforgettable because nobody expects them.

That is exactly why Manvinder Bisla’s knock in the 2012 final remains iconic. Chennai Super Kings looked ready to win a third straight IPL title after posting a huge total at Chepauk. Most fans expected CSK to finish the job comfortably. Then Bisla happened.

He attacked one of the strongest bowling attacks fearlessly inside Chennai’s home ground. His 89 off 48 balls completely stunned the stadium. Instead of playing cautiously in a final, Bisla chose aggression.

That confidence changed everything. KKR suddenly believed they could pull off the impossible, and Chennai slowly lost control of the match. Bisla’s innings did not just win a trophy; it changed Kolkata’s history forever.

3. Shane Watson

Big players are remembered for big-match performances, and Shane Watson produced one of the greatest examples of that during the IPL 2018 final. Chennai Super Kings were chasing a strong target against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but early wickets created tension immediately.

Then Watson completely destroyed SRH. His unbeaten century looked brutal, calm, and unstoppable at the same time. Boundaries kept flowing effortlessly while Hyderabad bowlers slowly ran out of ideas.

What made the innings even crazier was the pressure surrounding CSK that season. The franchise had returned after suspension and desperately wanted a fairytale comeback. Watson made sure that story got completed perfectly.

Even today, many fans consider that knock one of the greatest IPL final innings ever played.

2. Murali Vijay

The IPL 2011 final featured another unforgettable Chennai Super Kings batting performance. Murali Vijay played an innings that often gets ignored today because of how many legendary playoff knocks came later. But at that time, his batting felt unbelievable.

He smashed 95 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and dominated from the start. RCB bowlers simply had no answers as Vijay attacked all parts of the ground confidently. Finals usually make players nervous. Vijay looked completely free. That innings helped CSK win their second IPL title and strengthened their growing reputation as the kings of big matches.

1. Suresh Raina

When IPL fans discuss playoff greatness, one innings almost always enters the conversation first. It is Suresh Raina’s unbelievable 87 against Kings XI Punjab in 2014. Honestly, many fans still call it the greatest IPL playoff knock ever despite CSK losing the match.

That tells you how ridiculous the innings was. Raina came out attacking like a man possessed. He smashed boundaries everywhere and reached fifty at insane speed. Punjab bowlers looked helpless while Chennai fans inside the stadium could barely believe what they were watching.

For some time, it felt like Raina alone might chase down an impossible target. His 87 came off just 25 balls. The strike rate looked unreal. The timing looked unreal. Everything about that innings felt out of control. Ironically, CSK still lost the match after Raina’s run out completely changed momentum.
