On this day in 1999 i.e. 19 February 1999, during the fourth test match of the Asian Test Championship between India and Pakistan, Indian legendary cricketer Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s controversial run-out had sparked a riot at Eden Garden in Kolkata. And to control the public at the end Police had to empty the stadium.

It all started on the third delivery of the 43rd over when Indian player Sachin flicked the ball from legendary Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram. Initially, it was looking a clear boundary, however, substitute fielder Nadeem Khan chased the ball and stopped the ball before reaching to the boundary.

Meanwhile, Sachin along with Rahul Dravid was running for the third run but Nadeem Changed the situation for India with a direct hit throw from the boundary line. Just as Tendulkar’s was about to drag his bat into the crease, Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s attempt of providing back-up saw both the players colliding which found the batsman short of his crease.

While some Indian fans thought that Shoaib Akhtar had done it all intentionally. And some fans were expecting to withdraw the appeal form the Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram. However, Sachin had to go back to the pavilion as the third umpire showed a red light because Sachin was short to reach the crease.

This all charged the fans and they started throwing various things on the ground to stop the game. But when Sachin Tendulkar accompanied by police and administrators entered the ground to soothe angry fans. And hence after a one-hour halt, the game resumed again.

Although, thereafter the things went worst when Team India batting line up collapsed and fans started misbehaving. The administrations decided to empty the stadium in order to complete the game. And hence the match again resumed in front of the 200 fans at Eden Garden.
