Ishan Kishan’s clever response lits up the press conference
The ICC ODI World Cup is scheduled in October-November 2023 and Team India is quite keen to get a settled combination ahead of the marquee tournament. The opening combination has been one of the most talked point amidst Shikhar Dhawan’s lean patch with the bat and a couple of young batters knocking the selection doors.
Ishan Kishan added a new spark in the race for Team India’s opening slot as he played a stellar knock of 210 runs off just 131 deliveries and took the game completely away from the dangerous-looking Bangladesh side. The young batter was asked about his World Cup chances after the game against Bangladesh and his reply left everyone in splits.
“I don’t know, I don’t think these things. All I can do is perform when I get a chance. I don’t want to talk. I want to let my bat do the talking. Whether there is a place for me or not. Ab 200 kiya hai kya pata (Now I’ve scored a double century so who knows), “ replied Kishan to the queries regarding his candidature for the opening position in the ICC tournament.
It’s worth noting that Team India’s regular opener Shikhar Dhawan is going through a lean patch and he scored just 18 runs in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. There has been a constant debate about Team India’s defensive approach in the first powerplay which leads to immense pressure on the middle order.

The aggressive approach shown by Ishan Kishan was highly applauded by former cricketers and cricket fans. His knock must have put some pressure on the team management as they must think about showing some aggression at the top in order to put pressure on opponent bowlers in the ODI World Cup. With Shubman Gill too in the reckoning, selectors will face some headaches in order to select the right combination ahead of the marquee tournament.
