After months of negotiation, Asian Cricket Council has finally taken the decision on the upcoming Asia Cup. The governing body of Cricket in Asia has accepted PCB’s hybrid model and the tournament will see Pakistan hosting the first 4 games while the remaining 9 games will be played in Sri Lanka. The first 4 matches of Asia Cup 2023 are scheduled to play in Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. While, the Sri Lanka leg will be hosted by Colombo, Pallekele, and Hambantota grounds.

Except India, the other 4 teams will tour Pakistan for the first 4 group games. India’s two group matches against Pakistan and Nepal will be played in Sri Lanka. The first match of the tournament will take place on August 31st while the final to be played on September 17. However, the dates of the games are yet tp be announced but it is being reported that Pakistan vs Nepal will be the opening match of the tournament.

Group Stage: Pakistan, India and Nepal are in the 1st group while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have been drawn into the 2nd group. During the group stage, each team will play 2 matches and the top 2 teams from both groups will qualify for the Super 4 stage.

Super 4: Here each team will play 3 games and the top teams of the table will play the final.

Asia Cup 2023 Squad News

India Asia Cup Squad News: The squads for all the teams are yet to be announced. So far we know that the Team India squad for Asia Cup 2023 will be led by Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul is expected to make his return with the tournament. Likes of Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah are also available for the selection. Shubman Gill will be preferred as Rohit’s opening partner while Ishan Kishan is expected to be the backup. Virat Kohli will be there batting at No. 3.

Pakistan Asia Cup Squad News: Pakistan team will be led by Babar Azam. Their lethal pace bowling line-up will consist Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf. Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan will have important roles to play.

Sri Lanka Asia Cup Squad News: Dasun Shanaka will lead The Sri Lankan side. The upcoming Lanka Premier League is a big chance for youngsters to catch the selectors’ eyes. Matheesha Pathirana who has impressed everyone during IPL 2023 is expected to play his first tournament with Sri Lanka.

Nepal Squad for Asia Cup: Nepal squad will look somewhat like their World Cup Qualifier squad. Under Rohit Paudel’s captaincy, Nepal is reaching new heights. Under Paudel, the emerging nation managed to reach their first-ever World Cup Qualifier and Asia Cup.

Afghanistan Asia Cup Squad News: Hashmatullah Shahidi is expected to lead the Afghanistan side in Asia Cup. In the last ODI Asia Cup in 2018, they had topped their group. Their spin bowling trio Rashid Kahn, Noor Ahmad, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman will be a threat to the opponents. Naveen Ul Haq will also be there and fans can’t wait to witness his rivalry with Virat Kohli since the infamous banter in IPL 2023.
