While India had topped the Group 2 points table with 8 points, the England side ended up in the second position in the Group 1 points table owing to a better NRR than the Australian side. In their 2nd Super 12 game, the English side suffered an unexpected loss against Ireland after which they managed to win the remaining games. The much-anticipated game, England vs Australia, was however washed out due to rain.

The Adelaide Oval Pitch has proved to be a two-paced surface where the batters generally struggle to score. A fresh Adelaide pitch offers assistance to the pacers. The pacers receive some movement off the surface which troubles the batters. However, it is easier to bat on at Adelaide in the first innings as compared to the second as the pitch starts to slow down and it gets tougher for the batters to play their shots.
