Chennai Super Kings are set to lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai. Ahead of the first game, MS Dhoni stepped down as the CSK captain and has handed over the duties to Ruturaj Gaikwad, a development that created major shock waves in the IPL cricket fraternity.

Soon after that, scores of netizens took to their respective social media handles to pay rich tribute to MS Dhoni for making CSK a phenomenal force in India’s premier T20 competition. Under his captaincy, CSK decorated the trophy cabinet with five IPL titles followed by two Champions League T20 titles. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders’ admin posted a cryptic tweet taking an indirect dig at MS Dhoni after his captaincy handover.

Kolkata Knight Riders took to their official X handle and posted a picture of all IPL captains. Interestingly, Jitesh Sharma, the vice-captain of Punjab Kings posed for a photoshoot in place of regular captain Shikhar Dhawan. Apart from that, Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings), Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders), Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans), Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals), KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants) featured in the picture.

The caption of the post reads, “We waited for days like these!” The cryptic post along with the caption became a talking point on social media, with the netizens echoing that KKR has indirectly taken a dig at MS Dhoni after the latter stepped down as captain. Meanwhile, some of the users sarcastically pointed out that the admin is “Gautam Gambhir”.

Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2024 journey on March 23, Friday as they play against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. KKR last reached the finals of the IPL in 2021 edition but surrendered at the hands of Chennai Super Kings. KKR won two IPL titles – both under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir in 2012 and 2014 editions respectively.
