Yesterday, India’s new cricketing kit was released by the BCCI. Replacing the ‘Retro Jersey’ which India sported for about a year, the new jersey is inspired by the fans and is being marketed as ‘Billion Cheers Jersey.’ Ever since the jersey has been unveiled, several photos of the jersey have flooded the internet, but the one which stands out the most is that of Dubai’s ‘Burj Khalifa’ showcasing India’s New Kit for the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Burj Khalifa lights up to showcase India’s New Jersey
India’s Jersey for the 2021 T20 World Cup was announced by BCCI’s official Twitter handle at 2:00 PM yesterday. The tweet featured Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and a couple of other cricketers donning the Prussian blue. Hours after its official release, United Arab Emirates Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper(measuring 2722ft) soon lit up to display India’s new jersey. Here are a couple of pictures from Burj Khalifa’s light show featuring our cricketing jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The Prussian blue jersey’s sparkling display via the Dubai-situated skyscraper was made even more appealing by the contrasting, pitch-black night sky which surrounded it. By no means is it a mean feat to be showcased on the world’s tallest building. The only other time a cricketing team was extended an all lit-up welcome by ‘Burj Khalifa’ was on September 23, when a KKR poster was displayed as a way to wish them good luck for the 2nd half of IPL 2021.

Coming back to the ‘Billion Cheers Jersey,’ MPL Sports cites that the new kit is inspired by The Bharat Army’s cheers. “This is the first time in the history of Indian cricket that fans have been memorialized on a jersey. It carries their chants and cheers from iconic past matches, transformed into unique sound-wave patterns,” reads an official statement issued by MPL Sports.
