India’s hopes of conquering the final frontier were crushed, deformed and pulverized by the dominant and ruthless South Africans, who showed no mercy in the Test opener in Centurion. The hosts, as usual, looked relaxed throughout the game, which was more than enough for them to subdue the tourists. The fact that the game ended within three days tells us that Team India were indeed no match for Proteas’ pack of energy.

South Africa has always been a place that has given nightmares to India, a venue where the Indians always struggled to produce a spark. Despite boasting good squads, the Indians lacked the additional energy to nullify South Africa’s strengths. This time too, they went out to seal the deal but that wasn’t meant to be as the hosts kept the Indians in check once again and churned out a comfortable win.

Proteas won the game by an innings and 25 runs and deservedly took a 1-0 lead in the series, with one more match to be played. The second and final Test will kick off on January 3 at Newlands, Cape Town. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane garnered the fans’ attention after he dropped a cryptic tweet.

His tweet came after India’s batting woes in the Centurion Test, leaving the fans in a puzzled state as they didn’t expect to see his tweet at this time. Rahane took to his X handle (previously known as Twitter) and posted a four-second video clip of him sweating it out in the nets. The caption of the post reads, “No rest days.”

Perhaps Ajinkya Rahane’s timing of the tweet must have left the fans to express their views and opinions. The experienced campaigner was last seen donning the Indian jersey in the Test match against the West Indies in July earlier this year. He failed to bring the best out of himself in the tour, scoring 3 and 8 runs in the first and second Test. Later on, he was overlooked by the selectors for the South Africa Test series. Overall, Rahane has played six Tests in South Africa, scoring 402 runs at an average of 36.54 including 3 fifties, registering his best score of 96.
