Team India was humbled by England in the first Test at Chennai. The fans were anticipating yet another heist, but the Indian line-up couldn’t replicate their Australia heroics. The batsmen faltered in the second inning which ultimately led to the defeat. The vice-captain in particular disappointed the fans and Ajinkya Rahane wicket in the second inning left Umpire Nitin Menon surprised.
James Anderson has been ageing like a fine wine and his spectacular bowling was on display in the second inning when he breached the defence of Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane in the same over.
On the fifth day of the Test, team India needed to build partnerships in order to even draw the match, but that couldn’t happen and one of the primary reasons for that was James Anderson.
Ajinkya Rahane Wicket surprises the umpire
Rohit Sharma went cheaply yet again and the onus was on Pujara to steady the ship with Gill. However, Pujara was dismissed pretty soon after the start of the fifth day’s play. He was followed by Gill who got a peach of a delivery by Anderson which tricked the batsman all ends up. The vice-captain received a similar delivery and he had no answer to that.

Anderson got two wickets in an over which broke the backbone of the Indian batting. Ajinkya Rahane wicket was met with a great surprise by the on-field umpire Nitin Menon. For the unversed, just on the previous delivery, Menon had declared Rahane not-out after a confident LBW appeal from the English team.
The umpire was seen covering his face with his hand in a bid to hide his emotions. Kohli tried to fight a lone battle but didn’t get enough support from the fellow batsmen. As a result, England thrashed India by a huge margin of 227 runs. The second Test will start from 13th Feb at the same venue and team India has their task cut out.
