The Indian fans were furious after team India lost the Super 4 game against Pakistan on Sunday. There were moments in the match where team India faltered which led to their defeat in the contest. However, there was one particular moment which hurt the Indian fans the most and it was the dropped catch by Arshdeep Singh. Post the dropped catch, the fans are seeing Arshdeep as the main villain behind team India’s loss.

Arshdeep Singh faces severe backlash for his dropped catch

The cricket rivalry of India and Pakistan always brings high-voltage drama on and off the field. On one hand, the players give their all to defeat their opponent. On the other hand, the fans do all sort of stuff to support their respective team. A loss for either of the team hurt the fans emotionally and they do things that shouldn’t be done. Arshdeep Singh is the latest victim of fans’ frenzy as his Wikipedia page was vandalised and wrong information was shared about the bowler.

The dropped catch came in the 18th over of the Pakistan inning when Ravi Bishnoi was bowling a crucial over. Asif Ali was relatively new to the crease and got a thick top-edge on the slog-sweep on the third delivery of the over. The ball went up and Arshdeep Singh was in a very good position to take the catch but it went right through his hands. This irked the Indian fans who have been severely criticising the bowler and blaming him for the loss.

Things got out of hand when the Wikipedia page of Arshdeep Singh was vandalised by an unregistered user who linked the bowler from Khalistani movement. The word ‘India’ was replaced by ‘Khalistan’ at many places in the bowler’s profile. Fortunately, these changes were undone almost instantly by Wikipedia editors. Wikipedia executives were summoned by the Ministry of Electronics & IT to give an explanation on how this kind of fraudulent information was published on the site.

While a section of the fans was ruthless towards Arshdeep Singh, he found support from his team members and other former cricketers who backed the bowler. It is to note that Arshdeep bowled really well in the game, giving away only 27 runs in the 23 deliveries he bowled. The pacer also picked up the wicket of Asif Ali, the Pakistani batsman whose catch he had earlier dropped.
