Cricket is finally back in the Asian Games. The Gentleman’s game made its debut in the Asian Games during the 2010 edition. It reappeared in the 2014 edition as well. However, it faced omission in the 2018 Asian Games. Nevertheless, cricket is making a return in the 2023 Asian Games, marking its third appearance in the event’s history. Here we will talk about the Asian Games Cricket 2023 schedule and the teams who are going to participate in it. Also, learn about the Cricket squads for the Asian Games.

Asia Games Cricket 2023 Teams – Men’s

A total of 18 teams will participate in the men’s tournament. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will start their campaign in the quarter-finals stage. Afghanistan and China’s clash in Phase 2 will determine a quarter-finalist.. While the remaining 12 teams will play knock-out games in Phase 1 and Phase 2 for three quarter-finals berths.

Here’s the list of teams participating in the men’s Cricket event in the Asian Games 2023:

Phase 1: Oman, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Bahrain, Nepal, Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Bhutan

Phase 2: Afghanistan, China, (6 winners of Phase 1 will join)

Quarter-finals: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, (4 winners of Phase 2 will join)

Asian Games 2023 Cricket – Venue & Format

All men’s and women’s games will be played at a newly built venue in Zhejiang University of Technology in Hangzhou. Both events will be played in T20 format.

Asian Games 2023 Cricket Start Date

The women’s cricket tournament will be played before the men’s one. The women’s event will commence on September 19 while the medal games will be played on Sep 26. On the other hand, the 18-team men’s Asian Games Cricket event will go underway on September 28 with Oman vs Saudi Arabia match. The final and 3rd place playoff games are scheduled to take place on October 7.

Phase 1 Schedule: 12 associate nations will compete to make their way to Phase 2. This round will begin on September 28 and will see a conclusion on the 30th of the same month.

Quarter-finals Schedule: As mentioned earlier, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will start their campaign from here. However, these 4 teams won’t face each other in the quarter-finals. They will play against the victors of Phase 2. India will get ready to play against the winner of Match 7. That means they will face either China or Afghanistan.

Asian Games Cricket Schedule for Women’s Event

The Women’s Cricket event will kick off with round 1 on September 19, paving the way for the exciting quarter-finals to follow. A total of 14 teams will compete. During the first round, there will be 6 games played. The teams that win Match 3, Match 4, and Match 5 will go straight to the quarter-finals. The winner of Match 1 will face off against the winner of Match 2 in Match 6 of the round. The team that wins Match 6 will secure a spot in the last 8.

The four winners from the Round 1 will face India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals. The women’s event will see a total of 14 games
