South Africa’s Provincial T20 Cup’s Pool B match between Knights and Titans saw a bizarre event unfolding. Titans’ player Ayabulela Gqamane found a unique but weird way of getting out. Though he got out hit-wicket, the way he hit the stumps got everyone amused.

Hit-wicket is quite an unusual way of dismissal in the game of Cricket and Ayabulela Gqamane took it to another level in a match against the Knights. In the on-going Provincial T20 Cup in South Africa, Titans faced the Knights in a Pool B match on Tuesday. While batting first, Titans were 6 down for 103 when Ayabulela Gqamane came into bat. He was looking good and had scored 12 runs in 6 balls. In order to take his team to a big total, Gqamane was taking on every ball with a view to hitting it for a big shot.

In the 4th ball of the penultimate over Migael Pretorius bowled a wide delivery outside the off-stump to Gqamane. The batsman was standing deep inside the crease anticipating slower and fuller deliveries. As the innings was coming to an end, Gqamane had a go at the wide delivery and he ended up smashing his off-stump instead of the ball. The off-stump went rattling backward and Ayabulela Gqamane’s innings came to an end. Everyone, including the commentators, were surprised by the way Ayabulela went on to uproot the timber.

By the end of the innings, the Titans could only post a total of 143 runs on the board. Knights, in reply, easily chased the total down with 5 balls to spare. Rilee Rossouw scored an unbeaten 73 off 51 deliveries for the Knights.

The video of Ayabulela Gqamane’s dismissal was also posted by the South African Cricket Board on their official Twitter handle. It was captioned “He’s invented a new way to get out” with a question asking whether it was the most bizarre way to ever be dismissed.
