Babar Azam’s tweet after Virat Kohli’s Lord’s failure goes viral

Once known for scoring tons at will, Virat Kohli has been on an uncharacteristic barren run as of late. He hasn’t been able to score a single century since his 139-run-knock against Bangladesh in 2019.

Be it the Indian Premier League or international cricket; Virat Kohli just hasn’t been able to replicate his past heroics.

He has huffed and puffed his way through the last two-and-a-half years, finding one or the other way to nick a wide delivery to the slips or the wicket-keeper. Yesterday too, the tale was not any different.

The English bowlers bowled their hearts out, reducing India to 29/3 at the ten-over mark. However, Virat Kohli was still out there and looked in ‘good touch.’  He had already middled two exquisite cover drives. But six balls later, he edged a sixth-stump lined delivery through to the keeper. Kohli was dismissed cheaply yet again as England trashed India by 100 runs on Thursday.

Babar Azam backs Virat Kohli to get back in form

Several cricketers and ex-cricketers have shared their views on Virat Kohli and his infamous lean-run as of late. Some recent names include Rohit Sharma, Virendra Sehwag and Shane Watson. And now, the list also includes the name of Pakistani batsman Babar Azam. 

Babar, 27, is often compared to Virat Kohli across formats, and currently sits at the top of ODI and T20I rankings, much ahead of King Kohli. It would be easy for him to want his competition to keep failing.

But that is not the case. Instead, he has backed Kohli to get back in form. In a viral tweet that came after Virat Kohli’s Lord’s failure, Babar Azam wrote, “This too shall pass. Stay Strong,” referring to the tough phase that Kohli has been going through. 

To see one quality cricketer back another is really great and fans all over the world have appreciated Babar for throwing his support behind his arch-rival country’s best batsman, who also happens to be one of his ‘idols.’

Babar Azam will be seen leading Pakistan in the first test against Sri Lanka on July 16, while Virat Kohli will be in action a day after in the third and final ODI against England at Old Trafford.
