Bajrang Punia lost in the semi-finals of Men’s freestyle 65kg wrestling against Azerbaijan’s Haji Aliyev today. Haji Aliyev dominated in the semi-final and won 12-5 against India’s Bajrang. India’s hopes were shattered at the point when Ajiyev took a lead of 8-1. Bajrang later did gain 4 points but those were too less to reach anywhere close to Aliyev’s lead. With the loss in the semi-final, Bajrang will now be eying on the Bronze medal match. Here are the details of Bajrang Punia’s Bronze Medal match.
The Indian Wrestler, earlier in the day, won against Kyrgyzstan’s Ernazar Akmataliev. Later, in the quarterfinal bout, Bajrang Punia defeated Morteza Ghiasi of Iran to enter the Semi-finals of the event. The Quarterfinal too was a close match where Bajrang won by the barest of margins. Bajarang did lose the chance of gaining the Gold or the Silver medal but the Bronze Medal is still on. The winner of the Repechage Round 2 will be the Opponent of Bajrang Punia in the Bronze medal match. Hence, Bajrang will either face Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan or Senegal’s Adama Diattaor for the Bronze medal battle.
