BCCI secretary Jay Shah cleared the row of the Indian cricket team planning to adopt the spilt captaincy method after the T20 World Cup.
Since the BCCI, announced its 15-member preliminary squad for India last week, there has been a lot of speculations on Indian skipper Virat Kohli is likely to give up the captaincy if India doesn’t lift the T20 World Cup in UAE.
Some theories also suggest that Kohli will voluntary step down after the showpiece event and India’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma will take over as the team’s white-ball skipper that means India might consider formulating a split captaincy method just like Australia and England have.
But according to Jay Shah, there won’t be any change in the captaincy as long as the team is performing. Shah said that he had discussions with Kohli, Rohit and head coach Ravi Shastri regarding the matter and everyone agreed to the decision.
“As long as a team is performing while on the crease, the question of a change in captaincy doesn’t arise,” Shah told The Indian Express.
“I spoke to the captain and vice-captain, as well as Ravi Shastri. They all are on the same page, so that’s why this matter has reached this conclusion,” Shah added.
Kohli recently led India against England in a five-match Test series, which could not be completed after the Indian camp suffered a COVID-19 scare on the eve of the final Test in Manchester. Kohli and his men were very close enough to win India’s first Test series in England since 2007.
This is not the first time the Indian skipper has come under the hammer of the public and experts when it comes to captaincy, after every ICC tournament there is a section that raises their voice to replace Kohli with Rohit because of the latter’s success in IPL with Mumbai Indians.

The fact that Kohli is yet to bring an ICC trophy under his leadership adds more pressure to him in his maiden T20 World Cup as the team’s skipper and with Shastri’s tenure ending after the World Cup, the roadmap for the Indian skipper looks ambiguous.
In Group 2 of the T20 World Cup, India is paired with Pakistan, Afghanistan, New Zealand and two more teams, which will be determined through World Cup qualifiers. Virat Kohli and his men will take on Pakistan in their first match of the Super 12 stage.
