The 2023 ICC ODI World Cup is set to be organised in India in the months of October-November later this year. Ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to spend INR 500 Crore to upgrade 5 major cricket stadiums.
BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world cricket and it constantly looks to improve the cricket infrastructure in the country. However, they have received a few complaints from cricket fans in the recent past about the basic facilities in cricket stadiums.
Considering the upcoming World Cup, the BCCI will look to keep no stone unturned as they will host an ODI World Cup after 12 years. The 5 cricket stadiums that will be revamped will host a number of matches during the 2023 World Cup.
BCCI set to revamp five major stadiums for 2023 World Cup
As per the list accessed by PTI, the five stadiums that will undergo upgradation ahead of the World Cup include The Wankhede in Mumbai and The Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The other three venues are Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, PCA Stadium in Mohali and The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
The BCCI had received complaints during India vs Australia Test series in February-March. Spectators were displeased with the lack of clean toilets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai had undergone renovation before India vs Australia ODI series in March after a fan had complained of poor sanitary conditions in the iconic stadium.
As per the reports, it will cost INR 100 crore to upgrade the Delhi stadium, INR 117.17 crore for Hyderabad, INR 127.47 crore for the iconic Eden Gardens, INR 79.46 crore for the PCA stadium in Mohali and INR 78.82 crore for Wankhede.
The BCCI recently shared the list of 12 venues that have been shortlisted to host the 2023 ODI World Cup matches. The list includes stadiums in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai.

A total of 48 matches will be played in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The shortlisted stadiums will get to host 4 games each. With the marquee event being scheduled in the months of October & November, the BCCI will look to complete the upgradation work as soon as possible to organize the tournament in the best possible manner.
