The 12th season of Cricket Australia’s Big Bash League is set to begin on the 13th of December. The 54-day-long tournament will see 8 sides competing against each other to win the title. In the opening match of the league, we will see Sydney Thunder taking on Melbourne Stars at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. There will be a total of 13 double-header match days in this year’s BBL. The league will be played in a round-robin format where each side will be playing twice against each of the other teams. After each side had played their 14 games in the league stage, the top-ranked sides will be progressing to the playoffs. The league stage is scheduled to be completed on the 25th of January. Further, the playoffs will begin on 27th January and the Final will be played on the 4th of February.
Talking about the League’s history, Perth Scorchers is the most successful franchise, having won the BBL title the most (4) times. Sydney Sixers is the next most successful side with 3 titles in their cabinet. Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Sydney Thunder, and Melbourne Renegades have all won the tournament once each. Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars are the only two sides that are yet to get their hands on the BBL trophy.
