Bangladesh Premier League 2022, which commenced on 21st January saw rain play a spoilsport on February 4 as both the fixtures were washed away without even a ball being bowled. Even the toss couldn’t take place because of the incessant rain in Dhaka. While the players waited for the rain to stop, one of the Afghan players Mohammad Shahzad was caught smoking on the ground and the picture of him doing the same has gone viral.
Mohammad Shahzad caught smoking on the ground
Bangladesh Premier League had two exciting fixtures on Friday, however, both of them were abandoned without a single delivery being bowled. The first fixture was between Sylhet Sunriers and Fortune Barishal while the second one was the face-off between Comilla Victorians and Minister Group Dhaka. When the rain interrupted the second fixture, the players came out on the ground and it was at this point, the camera caught Mohammad Shahzad smoking on the ground.
The Afghan cricketer has admitted to the offense and the Bangladesh Cricket Board has taken appropriate action against the wicketkeeper-batsman. As per the BCB code of conduct, Mohammad Shahzad breached Article 2.20, which talks about “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”. A demerit point has been added to Shahzad’s disciplinary record as a result of his offense.
Mohammad Shahzad plays for Minister Group Dhaka in the Bangladesh Premier League and has not been in his element in the league so far. The batsman has only scored 120 runs in the six matches that he played. His average of 20 is quite less and the strike rate of 120 doesn’t match the way he generally plays. After the abandonment of two fixtures, the fans will hope for better weather for the coming matches.
Match No. 21 will be played on February 7 and will see Comilla Victorians and Fortune Barishal battling each other. A total of 30 league matches will be played and the final will be played on February 18 in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
